Confirmation is the Third Sacrament of Initiation and is celebrated as the completion of one's initiation into the Church. Confirmation is a "Call from God" which unites us more firmly to Christ and strengthens us with the fullness of the Gift of the Holy Spirit.
It empowers us to witness to our faith and links us to the ministry of Christ and of his Church. The preparation for Confirmation includes a sponsor who represents the wider faith community and provides an opportunity to make the youth partners of the community of faith.
Adequate preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is of utmost importance, and includes faith formation and inclusion in the life of the parish and larger community through service projects. The Catechesis for Confirmation strives to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community.
The confirmand pledge their understanding and knowledge of their importance in the Church through active discipleship in local ministries and responsibilities. The ultimate goal is to enhance the community's appreciation for the gifts that the adolescents bring to the mission and life of the Church.
The Sacrament of Confirmation Program is a two-year program in the Archdiocese of Hartford.
