Deacon Bill Farrell (Retired) Deacon Bill was born in Boston which means he has been a Boston Red Sox fan for 73 years. He spent time in Flushing, Long Island, N.Y. (Yankee territory) and attended St. Andrew Avellino Grammar School (Dominican Sisters). After moving to Hartford in 1948 he attended St. Patrick, Cathedral High, and Holy Trinity High, where he met Gloria, his wife of over fifty years, She is 100% Lithuanian, but strayed and courageously married a person of Irish descent much against the advice of the Lithuanian clergy. Deacon Bill graduated UConn with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and UHart Masters in Public Administration. He worked as Town Engineer in Avon, Wethersfield andWest Hartford (27 years) and retired in 2001. Professionally, he is licensed as a Professional Engineerand Land Surveyor and has served as an Officer in the U.S. Army, Corps of Engineers, in the U.S.and Germany. Ordained as a Deacon in 1982, he served 18 years at St. Ann, Avon and now has served at St. Patrick, Farmingtonfor the past 10 years. The Farrells have lived on Huckleberry Hill in Avon for the past 40 years. Gloria and Bill have been blessed with four boys (one deceased) and finally, at last, one girl. They now have 8 grandchildren, 3 boys and 5 girls. All of their mothers teach CCD. They acknowledge that God has been very generous by giving them many blessings and they are very thankful. Gloria is a reader, a teacher and helps count the collection while Bill serves the people of St. Patrick in Farmington by teaching, assisting at Baptism and at Funeral -related services. |
